LABORATORY ANTIMICROBIAL SUSCEPTIBILITY METHODOLOGY AND NOTES
Data is derived from participating laboratories utilising the
disk diffusion
method. Testing is performed in accordance with
BSAC,EUCAST
and
CLSI
standards.
CoNS
refers to Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci.
Currently, the dashboard does not facilitate filtering by specific AST standards.

TIME ANALYSIS
Filter by specific organism-antimicrobial combinations, or body systems, to analyse how resistance trends evolve over time. Use this section to identify shifting patterns across different years or seasons.
RESISTANCE TRENDS OVER TIME
Show Top:
This chart shows resistance proportion over time with 95% confidence intervals.
Use the global filters above to focus on specific organisms or antimicrobials.
When no filters are applied, the top combinations by test volume are shown.
SPATIAL ANALYSIS
Use the choropleth maps to visualise the relationship between sample volumes and resistance rates across the UK. Filter for specific organism-antimicrobial combinations to identify regional hotspots and distribution patterns.
Note:
Location data is categorised to UK region. Different laboratories provide varying levels of geographic information. Locations may reflect the patient location, the referring veterinary practice, or the testing laboratory. The spatial depiction shown here is based on the best available resolution for each sample source.
Resistance rate may only be meaningful for a single organism-antimicrobial combination.
Minimum tests per region:
This filter applies to the Resistance map. Regions with fewer tests than this threshold will be excluded for more reliable estimates.

intrinsically resistant combinations,
organisms that are naturally resistant to specific antimicrobials by default, that are excluded from typical resistance trend calculations.

CLASSIFICATION GUIDELINES
Antimicrobial classification guidance has been incorporated into this dashboard to support responsible antimicrobial stewardship when interpreting resistance profiles.
Please note that some organism-antimicrobial combinations do not currently display a classification. This occurs where the combination is not included in the referenced prescribing guidelines.
